
“Little Fires Everywhere” follows the intertwined fates of the picture-perfect Richardson family (Witherspoon as the matriarch) and an enigmatic mother and daughter who upend their lives (Washington). The story explores the weight of secrets, the nature of art and identity, the ferocious pull of motherhood – and the danger in believing that following the rules can avert disaster.
To put her money where her mouth is to keep making female-driven projects—and perhaps circumvent the pr disaster of hiring Andrea Arnold (“American Honey“) for “Big Little Lies” season two, only to see her authority undermined by the exec producer and original filmmaker Jean-Marc Vallée—Witherspoon and Washington backed another female filmmaker: indie director Lynn Shelton (“Touchy Feely“), mainly known for comedy was tapped to direct the entire series.
The series also co-stars, Rosemarie DeWitt, Joshua Jackson, Jade Pettyjohn, Jordan Elsass, Gavin Lewis, Megan Stott, and Lexi Underwood. Like “Big Little Lies” before it, “Little Fires Everywhere” is poised to be one of the biggest event mini-series on television in 2020.
